Your first visit, start to finish

If you have never been in a salt room, here is exactly what happens — from the front door to walking back out, 45 minutes later. There is nothing to prepare and nothing you need to bring.

The intercom at the Danum House entrance

Before you come

  • Book first. We work by appointment only, so there is no drop-in. Booking is online and takes a couple of minutes.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes. You stay fully clothed for the whole session. Tie long hair back if you'd rather keep it out of the way.
  • Bring nothing else. Shoe covers and blankets are provided.

Finding the door

We are at Danum House, 6a South Parade, in Doncaster city centre (DN1 2DY). The salt room is on the lower ground floor — ring the intercom at the entrance and we'll let you in. There is on-street parking nearby (pay & display and free), and Doncaster station is under a mile away, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot.

The first few minutes

  • We say hello and give you disposable shoe covers.
  • We show you into the salt room and to a reclining chair. There are six.
  • You settle in, take a blanket if you'd like one, and get comfortable.
  • The lights come down, quiet music starts, and the halogenerator begins.

The 45 minutes

The halogenerator grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt into a fine, dry aerosol and disperses it steadily through the room. You breathe normally. That's the whole thing.

There is no routine to follow and nothing to get right. People read, listen to music, close their eyes, or fall asleep. The room is cool, quiet and dimly lit, with a deep bed of pure salt underfoot and salt-lined walls. The only sounds are the soft hum of the generator and the music.

Things people ask before their first session

  • Is it cold? The room is kept cool — that is part of how a dry salt room works. Blankets are there for you, and most people are comfortable in a jumper.
  • Is it loud? No. The halogenerator makes a soft, steady hum, under the music.
  • Will I be on my own? Group sessions are shared with up to five other people. If you'd rather have the room to yourself or just your own group, that's private hire.
  • Can I leave early? Yes, at any point. Nobody will stop you and you don't need a reason.
  • Do I have to talk to anyone? No. Most people don't say a word for 45 minutes.

Afterwards

You collect your things and go. There is nothing to wash off — the salt is dry. Some people notice a slight tickle in the throat from the dry salt air; it passes quickly.

Coming back

Many people come weekly or twice a week, the way they would with any other wellbeing habit. If you already know you'd like to come regularly, the 10- and 20-session packages and the six-month membership work out cheaper than single sessions — see Coming regularly.

First visit — questions

Do I need to book, or can I turn up?

You need to book. We work by appointment only, and booking is online with a 50% or 100% deposit.

What should I wear to a salt room?

Loose, comfortable clothes. You stay fully clothed. Shoe covers and blankets are provided, so there is nothing to bring.

How early should I arrive?

Sessions start on time, so please arrive 10 minutes early. That gives you time to put shoe covers on and settle into a chair.

Can I use my phone during the session?

You can, but most people use the 45 minutes to put it down. Reading, resting and sleeping are all fine.

How long does the whole visit take?

The session itself is 45 minutes. Arrive 10 minutes before, and allow a few minutes afterwards.

Can I come after work?

Yes. We are open until 20:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I'm pregnant, or I have a health condition — can I book?

Halotherapy is a complementary wellbeing practice, not a medical treatment. If you are pregnant or have any health concern, please speak to your GP before booking.
